  6. This is version 1.01A of CheckMate Plus.  If you have been using
  7. any earlier version, read over this file before using v1.01A.

  10. ABOUT CHECKMATE PLUS
  11.  
  12. CheckMate Plus is a full-featured, easy to use, checkbook-based
  13. accounting package.  It is a REAL accounting package, with REAL
  14. double-entry transactions.  Unlike packages such as Quicken, you
  15. can produce true balance sheets and income statements as well as
  16. numerous budgeting and graphical reports.

  18. CheckMate Plus is SHAREWARE, which means you are free to copy the
  19. ORIGINAL distribution disk (or file, if you got it from a BBS)
  20. and share it with whoever you please.  If you find CheckMate Plus
  21. to be useful and you use it beyond a reasonable evaluation
  22. period, we expect you to REGISTER your copy.

  25. HOW TO EVALUATE CHECKMATE PLUS

  27. CheckMate Plus is intuitive, easy to use, and has extensive
  28. on-line help.  It is quite sophisticated, however, and you'll
  29. need the User's Guide to fully exploit its power.

  31. CheckMate Plus comes with a "disk-based" Introductory User's
  32. Guide to aid you in evaluation.  The Introductory User's Guide is
  33. quite large, and consequently is available on a separate diskette
  34. (or a separate file, if you're downloading it from a BBS).  If
  35. you got CheckMate Plus from a shareware vendor, you should have
  36. received the documentation disk as part of the package.  If you
  37. downloaded CheckMate Plus from a BBS, they should also have the
  38. documentation file available for download.  When you register,
  39. you'll receive the complete, 200+ page, illustrated User's Guide
  40. from us.

  70. CheckMate Plus is designed to completely replace CheckMate AND
  71. CheckMate-GL.  The file format for CheckMate Plus is radically
  72. different from the older programs, however.

  74. When you register CheckMate Plus, you'll get a special
  75. "utilities" disk to convert the older file formats to CheckMate
  76. Plus' format.  If you've previously registered CheckMate and/or
  77. CheckMate-GL, call us for a special upgrade price.  If you
  78. haven't yet registered, you'll need to register CheckMate Plus to
  79. get the special conversion program.

  82. HOW TO REGISTER CHECKMATE PLUS and WHAT YOU GET

  84. Registration costs $60 (plus $5 shipping and handling).  In
  85. return, you'll receive the latest copy of CheckMate Plus on disk,
  86. a 200+ page professionally produced User's Guide, one year of
  87. technical support by phone, fax, mail, or CompuServe, information
  88. on ordering computer form checks designed specifically for
  89. CheckMate Plus, a special "utilities" disk, and some special free
  90. offers.

  92. The "utilities" disk contains a program to convert the old data
  93. formats (from the original CheckMate and/or CheckMate-GL) to
  94. CheckMate Plus format.  It also contains a small program you can
  95. call from your "autoexec.bat" file to check transactions that are
  96. due.  (You can tell CheckMate Plus to remind you to pay your
  97. rent, for instance).

  138.     In many cases, this menu can be used in place of the
  139.     <alt-F10> local menu.

  145. Bug fixes and corrections from version 1.00:
  146.  
  147. 1)   Some transactions were duplicated in the Ledger Activity
  148.      Report.  We've corrected this.
  149. 2)   We corrected balance computations in the Ledger Activity
  150.      Report.
  151. 3)   We fixed the "Search and Filter" window (it could not find
  152.      check numbers).
  153. 4)   We implemented debit and credit totals on the Transaction
  154.      Report.
  155. 5)   We fixed a screen display problem when entering date
  156.      activated automatic transactions.
  157. 6)   CheckMate Plus now correctly reports when the printer is not
  158.      ready (rather than crashing).
  159. 7)   The calculator now automatically sets the "num lock".
  160. 8)   We corrected alignment problems on the Reconciliation
  161.      Report (totals at the bottom).
  162. 9)   We fixed the "between any two dates" option on many reports
  163.      (it wouldn't accept some "ending dates").
  164. 10)  The "audit lock" password now works correctly.
  165. 11)  Contra accounts are now fully functional.
  166. 12)  We fixed a "menu overwrite" problem that sometimes occurred
  167.      while editing or deleting accounts.
  168. 13)  We corrected the "Save Report Definition" screen (it used to
  169.      say "Save Check Layout").
  170. 14)  The automatic rebuild when you start CheckMate Plus now
  171.      preserves the default account.
  172. 15)  We reworked all three rebuild functions for better
  173.      reliability.
  174. 16)  We fixed the Reconcile window so the <F10> key now takes you
  175.      back to the menu.
  176. 17)  We removed the "beep" when an "EMS" driver isn't available.
  177. 18)  CheckMate Plus now "remembers" the last date you entered on
  178.      each transaction (instead of starting with the DOS date each
  179.      time).
  180. 19)  "Date Activated" transactions dated on the 31st now work
  181.      correctly.  
  182. 20)  The <F3> key now pulls the "memo" line in (while working in
  183.      the "split" window).
  184. 21)  A very strange decompression bug has been fixed.  This could
  185.      cause unpredictable results.  (If you've had weird problems,
  186.      this could well have been the culprit).
  187. 22)  "Delete Account" now works properly.
  188. 23)  "Edit Account" now correctly updates the database.
  189. 24)  CheckMate Plus now correctly handles the menu when all
  190.      custom reports have been deleted.
  191. 25)  You can now edit the check layout while printing checks
  192.      (with the <F2> key).
  193. 26)  The "INPUT" command (for printing checks) now correctly
  194.      inputs "real: numnbers.
  195. 27)  You can now adjust the number of digits displayed after the
  196.      decimal point on checks, but it only works while commas are
  197.      turned OFF!
  198. 28)  "Close Transactions" now correctly transfers balances to P/L
  199.      accounts.
  200. 29)  CheckMate Plus now correctly updates account balances for
  201.      ALL accounts in the transaction (not just the default).  No
  202.      more "zero" account balances!
  203. 30)  You can now disable the shareware screen while running off a
  204.      floppy disk system.  Refer to your original registration
  205.      letter for details.
  206. 31)  The "screen-saver" feature has been fixed.

  209. Jan 6, 1991 -- Release of version 1.01A
  210. Bug fixes and corrections from version 1.01:
  211.  
  212. 1)   We fixed a bug in the "past fiscal years" calculation on the
  213.      balance sheet.  Prior to this version, transactions posted
  214.      on the last day of past fiscal years weren't picked up on
  215.      the balance sheet.
  216.  
  217. 2)   The "reconcile report" would incorrectly list "zero"
  218.      transactions (such as a voided check) as a "credit".  We
  219.      fixed it.
  220.  
  221. 3)   We corrected the alignment of final totals on the "reconcile
  222.      report" (one total was one column off).
  223.  
  224. 4)   The "transaction report" would sometimes unnecessarily
  225.      search the database multiple times.  This has been fixed.
  226.  
  227. 5)   We fixed a problem in the custom reports (when using
  228.      "calculation lines" and "Use Parentheses" was "YES").  This
  229.      bug caused CheckMate Plus to incorrectly evaluate negative
  230.      numbers.
